Introduction

My name is Lorena Portillo and this is my second year in the MPH program at USF. I have an undergraduate degree in anthropology from San Jose State University. Currently I live in Oakland, CA. My health interests are in communicable disease epidemiology. After my MPH I hope to work in academia or in a department of public health.

  1. Hi Lorena,

Welcome to the class ‘Environmental and Occupational Health Issues in Public Health’ for MPH students. Communicable diseases epidemiology is an interesting field and working in public health department is one of the best places to practice this. Are there any particular communicable diseases that you are interested to work on? Are you planning to engage in disease surveillance work and communicable diseases research after your MPH? Communicable diseases are connected to the environment and people’s occupation. You will surely learn some throughout the class.

    Best,
    Igor

  2. Hi Lorena,

My undergraduate degree is also in Anthropology! In terms of your public health interests, are there any specific diseases you would like to research further or focus on in the future? I look forward to reading your future posts!
